Fergburger Queenstown became an attraction. It became an icon of Queenstown. But is it actually worth trying? Is it worth the money and the waiting time in the queue?
About Fergburger Queenstown
Fergburger started operating in 2001 as a place to feed drunken people at night in Queenstown New Zealand. There were no places open where people could get something to eat at night in this town that time. Fergburger was the first place and offered quality burgers right from the start.
It has been operating in a small place on Cows Lane first but when this building was put down he moved to Shotover Street and there he is operating till today.
He not only offers burgers now. He opened bakery and gelato right next door. So you can get something to eat or drink almost nonstop every day from Ferg. And all three of these offer great quality!
Is Fergburger Queenstown worth going?
In my opinion – yes! That’s the easy conclusion. Some people will tell you it’s just a burger. But in my opinion it is really worth it. The price of it’s burgers hasn’t changed I think since I have been living in this town – that means for the past nine years. Or if it did than not too much.
The burgers are HUGE! I personally can only eat them when I don’t eat anything else for breakfast and no fries with it. They are really big! And not just that. All the ingredients are delicious. Quality ingredients, very well marinated and seasoned. No matter what type of meat you get! Even vegetarian one is absolutely delicious! Their fries are really good too!
The queue is usually really long but the stuff is doing an incredible job and even when it looks like you will be standing there for the whole day you usually get it much quicker than expected.
You will receive a menu to hand while waiting and the stuff outside will tell you how long approximately it will take till you get your burger so you can decide if you want to wait or not.
Ferg bakery and Mrs Ferg gelateria
Ferg Bakery has the best Boston donuts you can get! 🙂 Their pies are amazing, European style bread is delicious, their croissants are really good too! And all the savory stuff! OMG! I love them! Coffee is sometimes really good and sometimes not as much in my opinion but I am really fussy with coffee. Depends who makes it.
Mrs Ferg Gelateria – their gelato is really good! I can’t really compare it with real Italian gelato but I do like the ice-cream there. Unfortunately I had a really bad experience with their stuff there once and as I have a hospitality background myself, I just can’t get over it! I think I should give them another chance though. Especially as I know how often all the restaurants and all other places are changing their stuff in Queenstown. Most people are staying just for one or two seasons. I think, I will give it another go. I do recommend trying them when you are here just for a visit! It’s just me being honest, me as a person who lives here.
My final conclusion
Yes, I do recommend Fergburger as well as the bakery or the gelato. If the queue for the burger is too long you can get a pie next door and go for the burger later. But I do recommend to try it out. It’s one of those things in Queenstown you should not miss and it’s also worth the money! You can take it to the beach and eat it there while watching the beautiful scenery around!
